Gesture Drawing

Grade 5 Art

Students learned about gesture drawing by observing the work of the comic artist Ryan Benjamin and discussed why different artists practice gesture drawing. After viewing a demonstration, students were paired in groups of two and took turns being the artist and the model. Students practiced quick mark-making for 4 rounds ranging from 2 minutes to 15 seconds. Once all rounds were over, students discussed how they felt about the activity, what challenges they encountered, and what they might do differently the next time they practice gesture drawing
